To make your life easier, we have made a list of some of our favourite independent hotels to stay in in the Italian Alps.

Hotel Montagna di Luce - Alagna Valsesia

Hotel Montagna di Luce is a peaceful hotel, that is a 10-minute walk from the village centre, situated in a small hamlet of Alagna.

Hotel Montagna di Luce is a beautifully renovated building which was originally a family home, now transformed into a stylish hotel, retaining all the elements of the original architecture.

Owned by the Alagna mountain guide Sergio Gabio and run by Silvia her team, this hotel offers warm and friendly hospitality within a traditional, classic, yet cosy environment.

This independent hotel has a fantastic restaurant, where the food is produced by local chef, Alberto Pollet.

Hotel Cristallo

Another small independent hotel in the heart of Alagna is Hotel Cristallo.

The MH Cristallo is located close to all the amenities of the village and next to the Sesia River, as well as being just a 3-minute walk from the main ski lift station.

The rooms are decorated to combine the traditional style of the mountains with the modern, creating a timeless style. The river terrace, the lounge bar, the gastronomic restaurant, as well as the central location makes your stay at Hotel Cristallo truly perfect!

The restaurant in Hotel Cristallo offers Italian cuisine, based on local products, making this an ideal, independent hotel to stay in to experience a true Italian getaway.

And…the added bonus to staying at Hotel Cristallo is that your pets are also welcome to stay too!

Auberge de la Maison - Courmayeur

Also in Courmayeur, Auberge de la Maison is a beautiful independent hotel full of the family’s art collection and with an amazing view of Mont Blanc.

Auberge de la Maison will bring you straight into the Alpine atmosphere with its cosy sofas around the crackling fireplace and the scent of aged wood.

This small, independent hotel has been run by the Garin family for three generations, who have carried on the passion for hospitality at the foot of the mountain.

The great attention to detail at Auberge de la Maison is what makes it so special! All the rooms overlook the spectacular nature, have traditional Valle d’Aosta furniture, antiques, and enchanting paintings.

Hotel Lo Campagnar - Courmayeur

Hotel Lo Campagnar is another lovely small, independent hotel, located just outside of Courmayeur in Dolonne.

Managed by the Ruffier family, Roberto and his parents, Luciano and Eliseo, who will welcome you into the hotel and make sure you have a lovely stay.

The hotel was built on the site were Eliseo was originally born and the Lo Campagnar has been built to the style of some of the older properties in the valley.

With a new, cosy Finnish outdoor sauna opening this winter season, you will be sure to have an amazing time staying here!

Hotel La Rouja - Cervinia

Hotel La Rouja is located in the heart of Champoluc and is a completely renovated, family-run hotel.

The incredible charm is what makes Hotel La Rouja the perfect place to stay on your ski holiday. The hotel is decorated with finely carved woods, fine furniture and has the finest attention to detail.

Part of the experience of Hotel La Rouja is their amazing restaurant, which is characterised by their great passion for the local culinary culture with zero km products.

Making Hotel La Rouja even more special, they opened a brand-new wellness centre in December 2022, with a sauna, Turkish bath, emotional showers, a relaxation room with a salt room, massages and a heated swimming pool in the garden.

So if it is a small, independent hotel you are looking for when heading on your ski trip, any one of these hotels will welcome you in and give you a truly special, alpine experience!
