This is a lovely introduction to dog sledding and is a popular option for parents with young children. With the lodge as the base, you will drive in varied terrain and enjoy different experiences each day.
There will be two one day trips and you will have another day where you will be free to choose other interesting activities. You do not need to be exceptionally fit or strong. The guides will match the number of huskies in your team with your strength. If for some reason you do not want to drive your own dog-team, you can ride comfortably wrapped in reindeer skin in the guide's sled. You will travel around 25-40km per day. All accommodation will be at the Lodge.
Day 1: Programme starts with dinner. The guide will then give you the first briefing regarding the tour.
Day 2-3: You will be provided with over clothing and the morning is spent getting fitted for snowsuits, boots and other equipment. Then you will work with the guide organising the teams of huskies and learn the basics of caring for your team and driving the sleds. After this first day’s induction on dog sledding you will have your “own” team of 4-6 dogs. On the dog sled trips you will drive though varied terrain and will stop for a lunch break around an open fire. With your guide you will be very close to nature and he will share his knowledge and appreciation for this environment with you.
Day 4: Open day for your own choice of activities. There is always a lot happening the farm, puppies are learning to socialise. Many interesting books can be read in the "Dogmusher library". Smaller tours can be ventured upon alone if desired: Snow shoeing, cross-country skiing or walking.
You can book an extra sled dog tour or tour with a snow mobile. It is even possible to visit Sami family with their reindeer herd on the plateau. Local handicrafts and shops can be found at the local Sámi village. Here there is the National Sámi Museum and guided tours at Norwegian Sami parliament. The Sami art gallery, Sami theme park and the local knife smith are also worth visiting.
Day 5: The programme end at breakfast.
