Andermatt & Furka Pass Ski Touring - 5 Days

A wonderful ski tour that can be arranged over a weekend making up a long weekend ski trip.  It is an atmospheric ski tour, in a remote area with some small and charming huts.  There are no technical climbing difficulties.  You will still be required in case of changing conditions to have a harness, crampons and ice-axe plus the normal equipment for a multi days ski tour.  For full details on the sort of equipment list you should be considering see equipmet list on our website.

Time of year:  March – April

Day 1:

• This ski tour starts in Andermatt.  It can be reached by plane to Zurich and then either by train or hire car to Andermatt.  
• Your guide will meet you at the accommodation
• Accommodation can either be at 1/ The Hotel Sonne a comfortable 3 star hotel in Andermatt where you will have and evening meal and accommodation, or 2/ as a lower cost alternative but very comfortable and atmospheric the Hotel Tiefenbach.  This is situated 6.5 km from the little village of Realp on the Furkapass, 2110 m above sealevel.  Here you will also have evening meal and accommodation

Day 2:

• Rise for breakfast and then transfer from Andermatt or Furka Pass by taxi to the Göschenental - start walking / skinning to the Voralphutte (2126 meters).
• From the mountain hut it is possible to reach the Sustenjoch (2656 meters) in one and a half hours for a short afternoon tour.  
• Ski return to the hut for evening meal and night’s accommodation.

Day 3:

• After breakfast you will prepare to ski into the mountains.  
• From the Voralphutte you will start climbing / skinning West on the Flachensteinfirn, then you will traverse to the Sustenlimi and climb / skin up to the Sustenhorn (3505meters).
• From the top you will ski down the Steingletscher to the Tierberglihutte (2795 meters) where you will have you evening meal and night’s accommodation.

Day 4:

• After breakfast you will have a short climb / skin from the hut to the Tierberglucke (2986 meters), from here you will ski West until the Triftgletscher (1900 meters).  
• You then climb / skin up West and South to the Steinhüshorn (3121 meters).
• From the top you will ski down to the Trifthutte where you will have an evening meal and accommodation.

Day 5:

• After breakfast you will cross from the hut South on the Triftgletscher to the Ober Triftlimi and then to the Dammastock (3630 meters).  
• You will then ski down the Rhonegletscher to the Belvedere (2271 meters) on the Furka road.  
• Following the road we cross the Pass (2429 meters) to Tiefenbach and then onwards to arrive in Realp.
• From here you will catch the train to return back to Andermatt and return to the Hotel Sonne.  After a refreshing shower you will be able to have a fine meal and drinks to celebrate after your time traversing the mountains.  As before the alternative option can be to spend the evening at the Tiefenback Hotel

Day 6:

• After breakfast and checkout you are free to leave for your onward or return journey. Hire car or by taxi/train.
