These Husky tours are ideal winter holidays for those who love wild and unspoilt places and adventure. The tours are designed to be suitable for experienced mushers and for first-timers. The safaris vary in their physical demands. On these tours you and your guide are depended upon yourselves, not upon snow machines, ATV or any other remedies. We try to make it as intimate as possible to ride a dog sled. From experience this is the only way to connect human, dog and nature together to create one whole.
Most participants are rather adventurous people who relish the chance to learn new skills and like to live life to the full. Neither age nor gender are barriers - all have equal qualifications for handling the dogsleds. The technique that will be taught to all participants and not physical fitness is a requirement for enjoying dog mushing. A reasonable level of fitness, concentration and a sense of balance are the key attributes needed.
Children can have a great time on a dog sledding tour. We recommend a program with dog mushing on day trips with the lodge as a base when with younger children. Then on the daytrips we will drive in varied terrain and new experience every day. One of the good aspects of dogsledding on day trips (special for kids) is that the power of each team can be easily adjusted to suit the musher day by day, simply by adjusting the number of dogs in each team. Each day there is a stop for a barbecue lunch around a campfire and the group can be much more flexible regarding time on tour each day and can adjust travel distance that fit the childrens wishes.
It is not a requirement that one has to be a passionate dog-lover to gain respect and admiration for these hard working dogs and their qualities. The guides spend time teaching those new to the sport. As all clients who come back to "mush" the dogs verify - the dogs really do become your best friends.
NOVEMBER - JANUARY: The arctic night’s unique tranquility and the distinctive atmosphere experienced in the wilderness dominate this time of year. There are a few hours dusk and on occasions the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) can be seen in the sky. As a rule the weather is cold, clear and stable.
JANUARY - FEBRUARY: Towards the end of January the days gradually become longer as the sun starts to reappear. The only people one meets on the mountain plateau at this time of year are the Sámi herding their reindeers.
MARCH - APRIL: The weather starts getting milder as the days become longer and brighter. This is a good time for ice-fishing in the many lakes found in this region.
